This study investigates the effectiveness of using English subtitles in educational video clips as a tool to improve the spelling performance of Grade Two pupils in an elementary school in Antipolo City. The researchers employed a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of students: the experimental group, which was exposed to video clips with English subtitles, and the control group, which received traditional spelling instruction. A pre-test and post-test were administered to both groups to determine improvements in spelling skills. The study aimed to assess whether subtitles could support spelling retention and recognition through a multisensory learning experience. Participants were selected from two Grade Two sections identified as having the lowest mean percentage score in spelling. Cluster sampling was utilized to assign Section X as the experimental group and Section Y as the control group. The researchers developed and presented three educational video clips featuring subtitle-embedded vocabulary words aligned with the learners' curriculum. Both groups completed paper-based pre- and post-tests to measure their spelling performance before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using a paired t-test to compare the scores of both groups. Results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group's spelling scores compared to the control group, suggesting that the use of English subtitles in video content can be an effective instructional strategy. This supports the theoretical framework of Multimedia Learning Theory, emphasizes the cognitive benefits of combining visual and textual information. Findings from this research highlight the potential of video subtitles to enhance early literacy development.Show More ▼
